Step-by-Step Instructions for Drawing a Fruitcake

How to Draw a Great Looking Fruitcake for Kids and Beginners - Step 1

1. Begin by outlining the basic shape of the fruitcake. Use wavy curved lines for the top and bottom sides of the loaf, and nearly straight lines for the cut ends. Note the rounded corners.
Drawing Step 2

2. Draw two sets of curved lines across the top of the cake in a loose "M" shape. Connect them with a straight line, and draw a curved line to one side of the near "M." This forms the three-dimensional top of the cake.

Drawing Step 3

3. Draw a straight line, curved at the bottom, from the top of the cake to the corner. Then, draw wavy lines between the two upper corners, and between the middle sections and the bases of the "M"s. This completes the three-dimensional outline. Then, draw curved lines across the top.
Drawing Step 4

4. Draw more curved lines across the top and corner of the bread, and straight lines vertically along the side. Then, begin drawing the candied fruit. Enclose irregular shapes on the cut face of the bread.
Drawing Step 5

5. Draw more candied fruit. Draw many irregular shapes, some large and some small.
Drawing Step 6

6. Draw a few more irregularly shaped pieces of fruit. Then, begin drawing a cut slice of the cake. Use curved lines to partially enclose a large rectangular shape.
Drawing Step 7

7. Use overlapping curved lines in a "W" shape to enclose the top of the slice. Then, draw curved lines on the cut face of the slice, parallel to two of the sides.

Learn More About The Fruitcake Drawing
Fruitcake is both lauded as a holiday gift-giving tradition and loathed as the butt of jokes and as a synonym for "crazy." What is a fruitcake? It is a very heavy spice cake filled with candied or dried and sugared fruits and nuts.
Some recipes also contain alcohol. Fruitcake is known for lasting many years due to the preserving qualities of the sugar and alcohol.
The earliest known fruitcake recipe dates from about 2,000 years ago in ancient Rome. Spiced cakes with fruit and honey were popular during the Middle ages, and one variety was banned during the 1700s for being "too rich and tasty."
From the 1800s onward, fruitcake was a traditional wedding cake in England.
Despite its popularity, some people don't like to eat fruitcake. Each year in Colorado, USA, a contest is held to see who can throw a fruitcake the farthest - often by catapult!
If you don't like fruitcake, you can still draw a festive spread for your guests, complete with a turkey dinner, a tossed salad, and milk and cookies for dessert!
