The Poké Ball is the primary symbol of the Pokémon gaming franchise. What is a Poké Ball? Poké Balls are essential to every Pokémon trainer's quest. They are used for catching and storing Pokémon.

Generally, a trainer must first weaken a wild Pokémon by battling with it prior to capturing it in a Poké Ball. Up to six Pokémon can be carried by a trainer; their Poké Balls are usually clipped to his or her belt.

There are a number of different types of Poké Ball. In fact, at least 27 types have been used in the Pokémon series. Poké Balls are made from Apricorns, a type of fruit that grows in the Johto region of the Pokémon universe.

Other Poké Balls are designed to collect specific types of Pokémon. For example, extremely large or heavy Pokémon may break free from a standard Poké Ball, so a Heavy Ball is used instead.

When Pokémon are drawn into a Poké Ball, they are transferred from a state of matter to a state of energy. Poké Balls are said to be designed for the comfort of the Pokémon stored inside.

In addition to the video games and trading cards, images of Poké Balls can be seen on many merchandise items, including toys, clothing, and accessories. In Japan, stores known as Pokémon Centers are devoted to Pokémon merchandise, often offering items that are sold nowhere else in the world.
