Learn More About The Pomeranian Drawing

Pomeranians, also called Dwarf-Spitz or Poms for short, were named for the duke of Pomerania, a historical region in central Europe. Their ancestry can be traced to a common ancestor of sled dogs.

It is said that they were bred down from a 30-pound sheepdog to their current size. They are classed as a toy breed, reaching a height of just 6 to 7 inches (15 to 18 centimeters) and weighing only 3 to 7 pounds (1.5 to 3 kilograms).

The temperament of the pomeranian is described as inquisitive, lively, and bold. It ranks among the top 50 most popular dog breeds in the United States.

Pomeranians have often featured in popular culture. The breed was popularized by a number of royal pet owners, including Queen Victoria.

They have also appeared in fine art paintings. Pomeranian characters make appearances in film and on television. Examples include Ivanna, London Tipton's pet in the Disney series The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, and Gidget from The Secret Life of Pets.
