Learn More About The Table Drawing

The table is a basic article of furniture found in nearly every home around the world. The table is a flat surface supported by various sorts of legs.

The table has been used since at least the seventh century B.C.E. - nearly 3,000 years.

Tables perform a variety of uses. Since Medieval times, the dining table has been popular for entertaining.

In the centuries that followed, tables were developed for specialized uses - tea tables and card tables, for example.

In the past, most tables were made of wood or metal. Some were made from stone.

Today, wooden tables are still popular today because of the durability of their finish. Besides, some people prefer the look and feel of wood (such as polyurethane table tops) over other materials.

The table is often used symbolically.

King Arthur's Knights of the Round Table were said to use a table circular in shape so that no one would be at the "head" of the table; instead, all were equal.

The dinner table today symbolizes family togetherness.

If someone asks, "What can you bring to the table?" they mean, "What skills or resources do you have?"

"Putting it all on the table" means being open and honest in communication.
