Step-by-Step Instructions for Drawing a Day of the Dead Skull

How to Draw a Great Looking Day of the Dead Skull for Kids and Beginners - Step 1

1. Begin the Day of the Dead skull outline by drawing two large circles. These are the eyes or eye sockets. Draw a large oval inside each circle. Then, draw an upside-down heart between and below the eyes. This indicates the location of the nose.
Drawing Step 2

2. Outline the sides of the skull using curved lines. Connect them with a slightly wavy curved line at the bottom.

Drawing Step 3

3. Draw a series of "U" shaped lines above and below the wavy line. These are the teeth of the skull.
Drawing Step 4

4. Draw a long curved line from one cheek of the skull to the other, outlining the jawbone. Notice the sharp corners around the chin.
Drawing Step 5

5. Draw another long curved line from one cheek to the other, this time over the top of the head. This completes the basic outline of the skull.
Drawing Step 6

6. Now that the skull is complete, begin decorating it with whimsical patterns. Draw a teardrop shape on each side of the jaw. Then, draw two spiral lines. At the bottom, use a series of curved lines to create a round scalloped shape.
Drawing Step 7

7. Draw a curved line across each cheek. Draw small teardrops along the lines, creating a fern leaf design. Draw a heart in the center of the forehead, with spiral lines below it. Shade small dots above the eyes.
