1. Begin the excavator outline by drawing a horizontal rectangle. Above it, use straight and curved lines to enclose two rectangular shapes. Connect them with a short line.

2. Use straight lines to draw shapes with rounded corners inside them - a pentagon for the door, rectangles and trapezoids for windows, and a series of narrow, horizontal rectangles.

3. From the front of the excavator, extend a long curved line and double it back on itself to form the boomerang-shaped arm. Below it, enclose a flattened oval shape with a second shape inside it, slightly smaller and parallel to the first.

These are the tracks that allow the vehicle to crawl. Connect the tracks to the cab with two short lines.

4. Use curved lines to enclose the irregular shape of the bucket. Connect it to the arm above by drawing a diamond shape with rounded corners between them.

5. Use a series of curved lines to detail the arm. Draw rectangles to indicate the hydraulics and circles for the massive bolts that hold things together.

6. Draw a circle near the bucket, with rectangles connecting it to various parts of the bucket and armature. Draw another roughly parallel shape within the track.

7. Draw partial circles with smaller circles inside them along the inside of the track. Draw two rectangles inside the central shape.

8. Texture the track with short lines. Draw an exhaust pipe on top of the machine, and detail the cab and arm with straight and curved lines.

Use curved lines to draw some dirt in the bucket and the ground beneath the excavator. Notice the hole where it's been digging.

9. Use curved lines to texture the ground and draw the far side of the hole, mountains in the background, and clouds in the sky.

Your cartoon excavator outline is now complete. Color your machine. Heavy equipment to soften painted bright yellow for safety, but it can come in other colors.
