How to Draw a Great Looking Fencing for Kids and Beginners - Step 1

1. Begin the fencing outline by drawing the protective mask. Use curved lines to enclose a curved rectangular shape and a cylindrical shape.
Band the cylinder with three curved lines. Use additional overlapping curved lines to contour the shoulder and the fabric at the front of the mask.
Drawing Step 2

2. Use a series of overlapping curved lines to draw the extended arm, hand, and the half-circle shape of the epee-style guard of the fencing sword.

Drawing Step 3

3. Draw a straight line from the center of the guard to form the sword's blade. Then use a series of overlapping curved lines to draw the remaining arm, bent at the elbow, and the hand above it.
Drawing Step 4

4. Use curved lines to enclose the torso and tops of the legs. Notice the wavy portions of the lines that add contours to the fabric.
Drawing Step 5

5. Enclose the irregular shape of shoes below the knickers - the protective pants - and connect them to the knickers with pairs of curved lines.
Then, draw curved lines across the tops and bottoms of the shoes to indicate the tongues and soles. Next, draw a spiraling curved line to begin the second fencer's mask.
Drawing Step 6

6. Use curved lines to draw the cloth at the base of the mask and to band the cylinder. Then, sketch the arm, hand, and epee guard.
Drawing Step 7

7. Use a curved line for the sword's grip and a straight line for the blade. Then use overlapping curved lines to draw the remaining arm, hand, and fingers.

Learn More About The Fencing Drawing
En garde! Take your fighting-ready stance, because it is time to learn how to draw fencing.
Fencing is a sport of swordplay with roots in the Middle Ages. It is not to be confused with fencing, that is, like the one in this picket fence drawing.
In fencing, athletes wear protective clothing to keep from hurting one another, including the mask that hides the face.
You will also notice that instead of a heavy sword drawing, these characters carry a very narrow blade called an epee or sabre.
You've likely seen movies that have relied on fencing for sword-fighting scenes, such as the Jedi battles in Star Wars. Could you imagine this scene with a lightsaber drawing?
