The Leaning Tower of Pisa is a famous building in Italy. It is made of white marble and dates to the medieval period. Construction began in the year 1173 and was finished in 1399.

The Leaning Tower was not originally designed to lean. It started to lean during its construction as its foundation settled. The soft ground could not hold the tower's great weight.

Will the Leaning Tower of Pisa ever fall over? Well, construction work began in the 1990s to stabilize it and reduce the increasing tilt.

At least four strong earthquakes have shaken the tower, but the same soft ground that caused it to lean also helped prevent it from falling.
