Learn More About The Dreidel Drawing

"Oh, dreidel, dreidel, dreidel, I made you out of clay and when you’re dry and ready, oh dreidel, we shall play."

So says a Jewish children's song. But you don't need clay to make your own dreidel. For this dreidel drawing, all you will need is a pencil and a piece of paper.

What is a dreidel? It is a toy, a four-sided spinning top, that has significance during the Hanukkah holiday. A Hebrew letter is written on each side of the top.

They are initials for the words nes gadol haya sham, which means "a great miracle happened there." The letters can also be used to play a gambling game.

What was the miracle? According to Jewish tradition, the menorah, a type of lamp at the temple, could only use the purest olive oil for fuel.

They only had enough oil for one day, but it continued to burn for eight days until they could make more.

You can learn how to draw a menorah with candles to illustrate this Hanukkah tradition.
