Learn More About The King Drawing

A king is a male ruler. Today, we often think of a king as ruling over an entire country. In ancient times, however, kings often ruled over tribes, cities, or districts.

Because of their prominence, kings were often depicted in art. Pharaohs, for example, were the kings of ancient Egypt. Their images are recorded on statues and painted tombs. Later, kings would be depicted on canvas, coins, and postage stamps.

Today, kings rule over about 15 sovereign kingdoms. There are a total of 26 monarchies in the world, affecting more than 40 countries.

In popular culture, any male of prominence may be labeled a king. Kings are used as logos or mascots, as in The King costume used in Burger King restaurant advertisements. Even the names of animals often include the word, king.
