Helen Keller was an author and a teacher, but it is the story of how she got there that made her famous. When she was a baby, sickness left her unable to see or hear.
Yet, she learned sign language, to read braille, to speak, and to lipread. She went to college, wrote books, and gave speeches around the world.
Keller was able to accomplish these things because of her devoted teacher.
As you complete this teacher drawing, what changes would she have to make to work with Keller? How could she help her feel the numbers since she couldn't see them?
Think, too, of how this book drawing would need to be different for Keller to read it.
Braille books have raised dots on the pages that you can feel with your fingers instead of printed words that you read with your eyes. Can you add the braille dots to this book?
