How to Draw a Great Looking Bookshelf for Kids and Beginners - Step 1
1. Begin the bookshelf outline by drawing one side. Use curved lines to enclose a tall, rounded rectangular shape. Make it three-dimensional by drawing several unconnected lines parallel to one side.
Drawing Step 2

Drawing Step 3
3. Draw two more shelves, equally spaced. Again, use straight lines to draw narrow, horizontal rectangles.
Drawing Step 4
4. Begin filling the bottom shelf with books. The spine of each book is a vertical rectangle. Make them different widths and heights, and embellish some with ovals or lines. Then, make them three-dimensional by enclosing the top or side that is visible.
Drawing Step 5
5. Use three straight lines to draw the back and side of the shelf, giving it depth and a three-dimensional appearance.
Then, start drawing books on the second shelf. Again, use rectangles for the spines, and make them different sizes. You can even make some lean diagonally. Decorate the spines with lines and ovals, then enclose the visible sides of the books.
Drawing Step 6
6. Draw a few more books on the second shelf, then draw a straight line above them to form the bottom of the shelf above. Notice the small, straight lines that outline the side of the shelf. Then, enclose and decorate book spines on the shelf above.
Drawing Step 7
7. Draw a few more books, then use straight lines to draw the side of the shelf and the bottom of the shelf above.

Learn More About The Bookshelf Drawing
A bookshelf or bookcase is a common piece of furniture, but it can be a portal to far-away lands and imagination. You can learn how to draw a bookshelf with the help of this easy, step-by-step drawing tutorial.
As part of this picture, you'll be drawing lots of books. Did you know? The first record of a bookshelf is in an illustration in a codex (an ancient type of book) from the 600s. It shows a writer of the Bible working in front of a "cupboard with open doors that reveal shelves holding books."
You can place this bookshelf in a house, as in this bedroom drawing or in a library drawing. You might even invite over a book-loving friend by learning how to draw Matilda.
You can also improve your perspective-drawing skills with this drawing. Notice how on the upper shelves, you see the bottom of the shelf above, but on the bottom shelf, you see from a different angle.
