Step-by-Step Instructions for Drawing a Leaf Outline

How to Draw a Great Looking Leaf Outline for Kids and Beginners - Step 1

1. Begin the leaf outline by drawing the stem or twig. Use long curved lines to create a "Y" shape. The lines should meet at sharp points on one end. Connect the lines with a short line on the other.
Drawing Step 2

2. Use a pair of lines that meet at a sharp point to enclose another stem. Then, begin sketching the first of the leaves. Use short, curved lines that meet at jagged points to create the side of the leaf.

Drawing Step 5

5. Continue drawing the leaf, using short curved lines that meet at points. Notice again the three lobes.
Drawing Step 6

6. Draw the third leaf, partially hidden by the first. Again, use short curved lines that meet at points.
Drawing Step 7

7. Finish the third leaf. Then, draw a long line down the center of each leaf, forming the central vein. On the first leaf, extend long lines from the central vein into each of the lobes.
