Step-by-Step Instructions for Drawing a Thanksgiving Card

How to Draw a Great Looking Thanksgiving Card for Kids and Beginners - Step 1

How to Draw a Thanksgiving Background Step 01

1. Begin by drawing the pumpkin. Draw the ribs of the pumpkin - its bulging sides - using a series of long, overlapping curved lines. Then, use another curved line to enclose a partial oval shape above the gourd. This is the pumpkin's stem. Draw a "C" shaped line across it to give the cut end of the stem a three-dimensional appearance.

2. Next, draw the turkey. Use a long curved line, doubled back upon itself, to form the turkey's body. Note the overlapping lines on one end. In the opening, draw the drumstick using two curved lines. Finally, use a curved line to enclose the shape of the remaining drumstick.

3. Draw a heart shape at the end of each drumstick. Then, draw curved lines connecting the turkey and the pumpkin, beginning the outline of the background. Beside the pumpkin, draw an acorn, erasing as necessary. Draw an irregular curved shape, then draw an oval around it. This is the acorn's cap. Then, use a long curved line to enclose a semicircular shape. This is the nut itself.

4. Continue to draw the scroll-like background. Extend a long curved line up from the turkey. Double it back upon itself at the top. Draw a "C" shaped line at the end of the long line. This gives the corner the appearance of rolled paper. At the bottom, draw another "C" shaped line and curved line to achieve the same effect. Draw more curved lines between the turkey and pumpkin.

5. Extend a line upward from the pumpkin and double it back upon itself. Draw a "C" shaped line at its end, giving this corner a scroll-like look as well. Above the pumpkin stem, draw a leaf using a pair of curved lines that meet at a point. Between the top edges of the scroll, draw a wide "W" shaped line.

Learn More About The Thanksgiving Card Drawing

The turkey dinner, the pumpkin, and brightly colored fall leaves are classic symbols of the Thanksgiving holiday and the autumn season as a whole.

What is Thanksgiving? In the United States and Canada, this holiday celebrates "the harvest and other blessings of the past year."

In the U.S., the holiday is linked to a legend of a feast shared by the English colonists and the Wampanoag Native American people in 1621.

Did you know? Likely, there were no turkeys at the "original" Thanksgiving dinner. The "fowl" mentioned in early accounts was more likely duck or other waterfowl.

The celebration did not become a national holiday until the 1800s - and turkey was affordable.
