Step-by-Step Instructions for Drawing a Turtle Outline

How to Draw a Great Looking Turtle Outline for Kids and Beginners - Step 1

1. Begin the sea turtle outline by drawing its head. Extend a long curved line and double it back on itself, noting the point of the beak and the incomplete rectangular shape.
Inside the head, draw a double-pointed shape with an oval inside. Shade around the oval, forming the eye. Then, draw a curved line above the eye.
Drawing Step 2

2. Extend another long curved line from the beak, enclosing the lower jaw. Draw a wavy line across the beak and a short line at the corner of the mouth. Shade a small oval to indicate the nostril.

3. Extend lines from the top and bottom of the head to form the neck. Extend a long curved line from the top of the neck to begin the shell. Contour the neck and lower jaw with curved lines.
Drawing Step 4

4. Use a long, curved line to complete the shell. Then, draw another long line and double it back on itself to form the front flipper.
Drawing Step 5

5. Draw the rear flipper, again doubling a line back on itself. Notice the scalloped pattern at the back of the flipper. Connect the rear flipper to the shell and front flipper with curved lines.
Drawing Step 6

6. Draw a long, scalloped line along the edge of the shell. Then, draw the remaining front flipper, extending a long curved line and doubling it back on itself.
Drawing Step 7

7. Begin sketching the pattern on the turtle's shell. Use curved lines to create a series of pentagon shapes.

Learn More About The Turtle Outline Drawing
Turtles are slow-moving, easy-going animals. You can pick up their vibes thanks to this easy, step-by-step turtle drawing tutorial.
Turtles have a very distinctive appearance. As reptiles, they are scaley, just like snakes and lizards. But turtles also have a thick, protective shell on their backs.
There are many types of turtles, but this one is specifically a sea turtle. Instead of blocky feet or clawed feet (like tortoises and terrapins), sea turtles have flippers.
There are seven species of sea turtles in the world's oceans - leatherbacks, green, flatbacks, loggerheads, hawksbill, and ridleys.
They all have a body style like this outline, but their shell and flipper patterns differ.
You can compare your sea turtle to this tortoise drawing.
