How to Draw a Great Looking Grand Canyon for Kids and Beginners - Step 1

1. Begin the Grand Canyon outline by drawing a series of overlapping curved lines. These form a rocky outcropping on one side of the canyon.

2. Use short curved lines and longer, overlapping curved lines to contour the rocks, giving them a three-dimensional appearance.
Then, draw long, overlapping curved lines to form another rocky prominence opposite the first.

3. Continue drawing the cliffs on both sides. Use long, curved lines to outline each section of the cliff. On one side, use horizontal and vertical curved lines to outline the faces of the rocks.

4. Use long, curved lines to outline another segment of cliff on each side. Texture and contour the cliffs with curved lines.

5. Use long, curved lines to outline three more sections of the canyon in the distance.

6. Connect the distant sides of the canyon with two curved lines. These indicate a bend in the canyon and mountains in the distance.
Then, draw two wavy, zig-zag lines down the center of the canyon. This is the Colorado River.

7. Add more detail to the cliff faces. Use lines that are vertical, horizontal, and that cross at perpendicular angles.

8. Use curved lines to texture the distant cliffs, as well as the banks of the river and the surface of the river itself.
Then, use a series of connected curved lines to outline a fluffy cloud hanging over the canyon.
