"Smile, because it confuses people. Smile, because it's easier than explaining what is killing you inside."
- The Joker

The Joker is a DC Comics supervillain, the arch nemesis of Batman.

The Joker has been the enemy of Batman from the beginning; he first appeared alongside the Dark Knight in the debut issue of the Batman comic book in 1940.

The Joker is a criminal mastermind and expert chemist who employs weaponized props, including deadly gags items and acid-spraying lapel flowers.

The Joker is generally considered to be an insane villain with a warped sense of humor. His origin story involves a dip in a vat of acid, which bleached his skin and turned his hair and lips an unnatural shade.

During the 1990s, the Joker picked up a romantic interest and sidekick - Harley Quinn, his former psychiatrist.

Did you know? Batman writers planned on killing off the character of the Joker during his first comic book appearance.

He was "spared by editorial intervention," and has since been Batman's archenemy for eight decades.
