1. Begin the cougar outline by drawing its face. Start with a heart-shaped nose. Extend a line from one side of it to indicate the snout. Then draw the eyes, using two curved lines to enclose each. Shade a partial circle inside each eye.

2. Sketch the cougar's head. Extend the line of the snout in a rounded "W" shape below the nose. Use a curved line for the lower jaw and another for the side and top of the head.

Detail the nose with two teardrop-shaped nostrils and a short line.

3. Use curved lines to sketch the ears and back of the neck. Then use shorter lines to contour inside the ear and along the jawline.

4. Extend curved lines to form the front of the neck and the shoulder. Then, use a series of long and short lines for the front leg. Notice the overlapping lines of the toes and the jagged, furry lines at the elbow.
