The term demon or daemon is derived from the Greek term daimon, meaning "spirit" or "supernatural being." In Christianity, demons are viewed as malevolent beings in contrast to angels. In other religions, demons could be either benevolent or evil.

Demon characters often appear in anime. Anime and manga often reflect Japanese myths and religions, featuring spirits that may appear as animals, humans, or a combination of the two.

The girl in this drawing guide could also be viewed as an alien rather than a supernatural character. Her horns cause her to resemble the Togruta species from Star Wars. The Togruta's horns are actually fleshy appendages known as lekku or head-tails. Ahsoka Tano is the most famous of the Togruta.
