How to Draw a Great Looking Pteranodon for Kids and Beginners - Step 1

1. Begin the cartoon Pteranodon outline by using a long curved line, doubled back on itself, to draw the upper portion of the beak.
Use curved lines for the brows and to outline the teardrop shape of the eye. Shade a round pupil inside the eye.

2. From the top of the head, extend a long curved line and double it back on itself to create the dinosaur’s head crest.
Use a curved line for its cheek and another line, doubled back on itself, to form the lower jaw. Use overlapping curved lines to detail the inside of the mouth and the tongue.

3. Use overlapping curved lines to sketch the animal’s neck and the shoulder of its wing. Contour the face and head with short lines.

4. Draw the pterosaur’s hand or paw, using curved lines that meet at points to form each finger. Extend the fourth finger to support the sail of the wing.

5. Use long curved lines to sketch the side of the Pteranodon's body, the top of each of its wings, and the edge of the first wing’s sail.

6. Use a long curved line for the bottom of the Pteranodon's remaining arm. Draw pairs of lines that meet at points to enclose the fingers.
Extend the top of the fourth finger to support the remainder of the wing.

7. Use long curved lines to complete the top of the wing, the bottom side of the long finger, the front of the chest and belly, and the bottom edge of the wing.

8. Use curved lines to draw the sides of the legs and the toes. At the end of each toe, draw small, sharp, curved triangle-shaped claws.
