Step-by-Step Instructions for Drawing a Realistic Sea Turtle
How to Draw a Great Looking Realistic Sea Turtle for Kids and Beginners - Step 1
1. Begin the realistic sea turtle outline by drawing its head. Use overlapping curved lines to sketch the top of the head and the mouth. Notice the pointed tip of the beaklike mouth.
Then, use a pair of curved lines to enclose the almond-shaped eye and another to contour each eye ridge.
Drawing Step 2
2. Draw a curved line across the top of the beak and detail inside the eye with two small ovals. Then, extend curved lines from the jaw and back of the head to form the neck.
Draw the shell, using a long curved line for one side and a scalloped, wavy line for the other. Draw the edge of the shell - and connect it to the neck - using another scalloped line.

Drawing Step 3
3. Continue the scalloped line around the gently pointed rear of the shell. Then, extend two long, curved lines from the shell and double them back on themselves to enclose the turtle’s front flippers.
Drawing Step 4
4. Extend curved lines from the bottom of the shell and double them back on themselves to enclose the smaller rear flippers.
Begin contouring the shell. Use curved lines to enclose a partial octagon and connect it to the front of the shell with two more lines. Contour the back of the head with a curved line.
Drawing Step 5
5. Use long curved lines to enclose a series of overlapping partial octagons all the way down the turtle’s back. Extend two curved lines from each shape to the sides of the shell.
Drawing Step 6
6. Draw a series of curved lines along the edge of the shell, one in each “valley” of the scalloped pattern. Texture the neck with additional curved lines, and detail the head with irregular, rounded splotches.
Drawing Step 7
7. Enclose more splotches on the head, including small ones on the eye ridges. Then, enclose rounded pentagon shapes on the edges of the front flippers.

Sea turtles live in the ocean, rarely coming on land. For this reason, they have paddle-like flippers instead of feet. You can see them in the drawing.

Sea turtles are considered "true" turtles. Land turtles - tortoises and semi-aquatic terrapins - have several distinct differences.
One is their feet, which you can see in this turtle drawing. Another is that they can pull their legs and head inside their shell, while sea turtles can't.
Your drawing isn't complete until you've given your sea turtle a place to live. Place him in this underwater scene drawing.
