How to Draw an Emperor Penguin

1. Begin the emperor penguin outline by drawing its face. Use two curved lines that meet at a point to draw the beak and the top of the head. Use curved lines to enclose the shape of the eye and contour above it. Shade a large circle inside the eye.

2. Use a series of curved lines that meet at jagged points to give the back of the head the texture of feathers. Use two curved lines to draw the split in the beak and detail it.

3. Use two long, curved lines to draw the sides of the bird's body. Draw a short, curved line at the top of the beak.

4. Continue the font of the body, noting the overlap of soft feathers at the bottom. Within the body, draw a curved line and double it back on itself to form the wing.

5. Use an overlapping line and short lines that meet at gentle points to continue drawing the bottom of the body. Emperor penguins have folds of skin covered in feathers that keep their feet warm. They even carry their eggs on their feet to benefit from this!

6. Use a series of long and short curved lines to draw the feathery tail. Then, draw the foot. Use overlapping curved lines for the toes and small rounded triangles for the toenails.

7. Complete the first foot and draw the second. Again, use overlapping curved lines and small, rounded triangles.

8. Extend a curved line from the chest and double it back on itself, forming the remaining wing. Then, begin patterning the penguin's feathers. Use a series of long and short curved lines, some of which do not touch, to draw a curve at the base of the head.

9. Continue the curved pattern to the wing, then extend it from the wing down the leg.
