1. Begin the marigold outline by drawing a series of connected “U” shaped lines. These are the petals at the center of the flower.
Draw another series of “U” shaped petals above and partially hidden behind the first. Then, use overlapping curved lines to enclose the outer petals. Contour them with curved lines.

2. Draw more petals around all sides of the flowers. Use wavy curved lines, and let the petals overlap. Use curved lines at the sides of petals to contour them and give them a three-dimensional appearance.

3. Draw another layer of petals around the edges of the flower. Use wavy curved lines, with overlapping lines at the edges to give them depth.

4. Draw more overlapping petals, using wavy lines and restoring the round shape of the flower. Then, draw a series of connected “U” shaped lines alongside it. This is the center of a second flower.

5. Use wavy curved lines to draw two layers of overlapping petals. Note that this flower is viewed from the side.

6. Use “U” shaped lines to draw more petals atop the second flower, and to enclose the receptacle at its base.
Then, extend a pair of curved lines from the base of each flower. Allow them to join, creating a “Y” shaped stem.

7. Extend three pairs of curved lines from the stem, allowing each to meet at a sharp point. Draw three leaves at the tip of one of these twigs.
For each leaf, use a series of short lines that meet at jagged points to create the serrated edges.
