How to Draw a Prairie Dog

1. Sketch a lemon shape with two ovals inside it, then draw a curve and two dashes above the eye. Add the nose with a crescent shape. Draw two curves beneath the nose and a curved line above it.

2. Outline the head with a curve, and sketch a smaller curve for the chin. Draw the ear with a diagonal line, a curve and a few dashes.

Add another curve, and draw a loose, sketchy line with lots of narrow triangles.

3. Use hot dog shapes for the fingers, drawing two on the left and four on the right. Draw long triangles for the claws.

4. Draw two more fingers, and complete the left hand with a curve. Between the hands, draw one curved triangle with a jagged bottom and another curve with a loose, jagged line beneath it.

5. Add lines for the neck and left wrist. Start the body with two vertical curves, then draw a pointed shape with three curved triangles. Complete the left arm with a loose, sketchy line.

6. Outline the back with two curves. Draw loose, sketchy curves around the body, then add a single toe.

7. On the left, sketch another curve and a line with three triangles. Add three more toes on the right.

8. For the left foot, sketch an oval, then outline the toes with straight lines and use rounded triangles for claws.

9. Draw the tail with narrow triangles. Add dashes throughout the body to give the fur texture. Outline your easy prairie dog with black ink, then erase the excess pencil lines.

Color your prairie dog drawing with light tan on the face and stomach and brown on the rest of the body. Make the nose and claws gray, and color the eye black with white highlights. Use green for the plants.
