6. Complete the foot using "U" shaped lines. Then, extend long curved lines on each side of the body.
Allow them to meet at a gentle point, forming the salamander's tail. At the base of the tail, enclose a half-circle shape on the side of the body. This indicates the rear leg.

Color Your Salamander Drawing
Your cartoon salamander outline is now complete. Color your creature.
We've shaded ours green with yellow spots, but the green salamander isn't the only species in North America. The red salamander is red and orange with black spots.
Several species are mottled brown, and several more are black with yellow spots. The marbled salamander is black and white, and the northern two-lined salamander is bluish-gray with light blue spots.

You can tell salamanders and lizards apart by the texture of their skin. Lizards have scales like the ones in this scales drawing.
Scales are dry and hard. Salamanders, on the other hand, have soft, wet skin without scales, much like the skin of a frog.
Salamanders have to live near water to keep their skin moist. Give your salamander a place to live by sketching this pond drawing. You'll even find a frog there!
