How to Draw a Possum

1. Begin the possum outline by drawing its eyes. Draw two large circles with tiny circles inside. Shade the large circles.

Then, shade a "U" shape to form the corner of each eye. Contour around, above, and below the eyes with curved lines.

2. Use a series of "U" shaped lines that appear to overlap but don't quite touch to draw the animal's nose.

Then, use curved lines - some of which meet at furry, jagged points - to sketch the sides of the face and the snout.

3. Use long curved lines to draw the possum's ears and contour inside them.

Use short lines that meet at jagged points to connect the ears and texture the base of one ear. Draw three nearly vertical lines down the center of the forehead.

4. Use a series of jagged lines to draw each side of the leg, and another to connect the leg to the face.

Then, use wavy lines that double back on themselves to draw the fingers of the paw. Draw a few short lines along the wrist.

5. Use a series of jagged lines to draw the animal's back and belly. Then, use overlapping curved lines to sketch the remaining foreleg and paw.

6. Use a series of jagged lines to sketch each side of the rear leg. Contour the neck and above each leg with closely spaced curved lines.

7. Draw the long tail, using a series of jagged lines that doubles back on itself. Use a curved line to indicate the remaining rear foot, barely visible below the belly.

8. Texture the fur with patches of closely spaced lines.

9. Continue to texture the fur with patches of closely spaced lines.

Your cartoon possum outline is now complete. Color your possum. Most types are brown or gray with lighter markings. Some have striking spots or streaks.
