How to Draw a Running Dog

1. Begin the running dog outline by drawing the face. Use a long curved line to sketch the boxy brows and snout. Use curved lines to draw the eye and eyebrow.

Shade the round pupil. Draw a curved line across the tip of the snout to form the nose, and another at the base of the jaw to form the lower portion.

2. Use curved lines to sketch the triangular ear, the lolling tongue, and the lower jaw. Notice how lines are used to contour inside the ear and the side of the tongue. Draw a small triangle at the tip of the lower jaw to form the tooth.

3. Use long curved lines for the top and bottom of the neck. Notice the short lines that lend the texture of the fur. Use a "V" shaped line to enclose the remaining ear.

4. Use long curved lines for the front and back of the foreleg. Overlap them at the end, forming the paw. Use short lines to give the texture of fur at the top.

5. Draw the remaining foreleg, bent in taking a step. Use overlapping curved lines. Use lines that meet at jagged points to draw the furry shoulder at the back of the neck.

6. Use long curved lines for the back and belly.

7. Use a series of lines that meet at jagged points to draw the "C" shape of the rear leg. Then, use long lines that overlap at the end to draw the lower portion of the leg.

8. Draw a curved line behind the leg, fully enclosing the figure. Then, draw the remaining rear leg. Use overlapping lines for the toes and a circle for the paw pad.

9. Use long and short lines that meet at jagged points to draw the tail. Texture the fur with short lines.

Your running dog outline is now complete. Color your dog. You can determine the breed by how you color it. You might use black and brown to make it a German shepherd drawing, for example.
