Step-by-Step Instructions for Drawing an Emu
How to Draw a Great Looking Emu for Kids and Beginners - Step 1
1. Begin the cartoon emu outline by drawing the bird's beak. Use two curved lines to create a wavy triangle shape.
Draw another curved line down the center of the beak to its tip. Then, use a short curved line to contour the corner of the mouth.
Beside the beak, use two curved lines to outline the almond-shaped eye, and shade a small round pupil inside it.

2. Next, outline the emu's fuzzy head. Use a series of short, curved lines that meet at jagged points to give the head a feathered appearance.
Then, use curved lines to contour around the eyes, beak, and nostril.

4. Continue the back with short lines that meet at jagged points, then extend a long curved line.
Between the neck and the tail, use a series of jagged, connected lines to sketch the rounded shape of the emu's upper leg.
Then, use jagged lines to connect the leg to the neck and tail, fully enclosing the bird's body.

5. From the upper leg, extend two long, curved, roughly parallel lines to draw the lower leg.
Then, use teardrop shapes and curved lines to sketch the claws and toes. Below the body, use a series of jagged lines to enclose the remaining upper leg.

6. Finish the toe and claw of the first leg, then draw the remaining leg. Again, use long curved lines for the sides of the leg, teardrop shapes for the claws, and curved lines to form the toes.

7. Use short lines to add details - a fuzzy texture on the head and neck, a few feathers on the shoulders, and creases in the skin of the feet and legs.

Learn More About The Emu Drawing
Hey, you! Want to draw an emu? This easy, step-by-step emu drawing guide can show you how.
Emus are the second largest bird in the world. They look a lot like the biggest bird, the ostrich. Emus are less colorful than male ostriches with their striking black and white plumage.
Emus also have stringy-looking feathers compared to the large, elegant feathers of the ostrich. You can compare the two when you check out this ostrich drawing.

Notice that the emu appears to be just a body with legs and a neck, with no visible wings. Emus do have wings - they are just very small. The feathers of the wings blend in with those of the body.
Emus are just one of the strange and wonderful animals that hail from Australia. Spend more time in the Land Down Under when you learn how to draw a kangaroo or check out this koala drawing.
